Gomora actress Sannah Mchunu who plays the role of Zodwa in the Mzansi Magic telenovela, won big at the DSTV Viewers Choice Awards. She scooped the Favourite Actress Award after being nominated alongside fellow Gomora actress Thembi Seete who plays the role of Gladys.

Seriti films and Gomora producers, in collaboration with cast members, organized a surprise party to celebrate Zodwa’s success and present her award. Led by their executive producer Lungelwa Hela, actors and other staff members burst into victory song as Zodwa burst into tears.


 

 

 

Sannah Mchunu’s rise to fame
From divorced housewife to the soapie award winner, Sannah’s journey to stardom was rough. She earned her first acting gig by mistake after accompanying her friend for auditions; while Zodwa was queuing on behalf of her friend, she was given a chance by the producers and earned the role.

The Gomora role was her breakthrough; she joined Gomora as a supporting act and rose through the ranks to earn the leading role.

On Gomora, Zodwa’s character is the mother to Teddy role played by Sicelo Buthelezi and stepmother to Sibongile (Nandipha Khubone). A recovered alcoholic who nearly lost her life in alcohol abuse, Zodwa was rescued by her childhood friend and local social worker Gladys who sent her to a rehabilitation centre. She killed her ex-husband and baby daddy Don Buthelezi who was on the verge of shooting Ntokozo. Zodwa is currently cohabitating with Bongani, who is being shown flames by her ex-wife Mdikizela through child support.

According to close sources, award-winning actress Sannah Mchunu is expected to be tied up by an R 95 000 per month salary bumper contract to fend away competitors from snatching fans’ favourites. Zodwa is expected to become the second-highest-paid cast member after Katlego Danke, who plays the role of Thathi.
