The way young children are developing, it’s scary. We are seeing more of “Rest In Peace” than “Congratulations”. Not so long ago, there was a very heartbreaking story of a university student who was killed for a cellphone. They were trying to rob him of a phone but he became arrogant, so they shot him dead. Lives are being lost for very useless things. A cap can be replaced, but a human life is irreplaceable.
Now there is another heartbreaking story of a young boy who was killed for a cap. After a fight broke out at the General Smuts high school on Monday, September 19, 2022, one of the students at the school was found dead from a knife wound. According to the allegations, a student at the school took the cap belonging to another student at the school. Following this, the victim’s brother and some of his friends from zone 11 Sebokeng traveled to General Smuts high school in order to confront the offender. The deceased boy is said to have been trying to break up the fighting when he was stabbed, and he ultimately passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained as a result of the stabbing. The victim was stabbed to death by a student from Thuto Tiro in Sebokeng.
It seems like our schools are being attacked by a demon that is making children kill each other. Just a few days ago, there was a story of a boy who was kicked until he died by a fellow student who claimed that he acted like a rich kid. Children are dying for things that don’t even make sense. A cap can be bought, but a person has one life. Once you kill them, it’s over.
I think we should go back to the old ways where children were searched before they entered school to see if they had any weapons, and also, police should make regular visits to school to remind children that they are being watched. The perpetrators have been arrested and police are still doing more investigations. May his soul find peace.
