Her coma was caused by an overdose of cocaine taken the night before she collapsed, according to the post-mortem report. She went into cardiac arrest and suffered brain damage as a result of the lack of oxygen. Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela, and Thabo Mbeki paid Fassie a visit in the hospital, and her condition was front-page news in South African newspapers.

On top of the luxurious apartment, the new title holder will also win prizes worth R3 million.

The Miss SA Organisation said the apartment had already been fully furnished, and was just waiting to be occupied.

“In preparation for the new Miss SA, who will be crowned in October, the apartment has been fully refurbished and furnished by Vursa, the furniture and homeware lifestyle brand that is the brainchild of Craig Nerwich and Daniel Chemel,” the organisation said.

“When the opportunity arose for us to become a partner with the brand, we were instantly drawn to its iconic status as well as its underlying philosophy,” said Craig.

“Miss SA is more than just a pageant that is focused solely on appearance. With the focus being so much more about empowerment, inclusion and upliftment, it was a perfect fit for Vursa as these are values we believe in ourselves,” he continued.
