The South African reported earlier that the veteran investigative journalist and longtime Carte Blanche presenter died on Tuesday at the age of 74.

He was a formidable investigative journalist with a strong screen presence – a magic formula that made Carte Blanche a must-see broadcast every Sunday evening. He was admired by many for his humility, his charm and his larger-than-life personality.

In honor of his legacy, M-Net is broadcasting the documentary Derek Watts: A Tribute today (Saturday) at 19:00. The program will trace his life, career and massive contribution to South African journalism and broadcasting.“Derek Watts has been a long-standing and iconic presence on M-Net, and his time on Carte Blanche is deeply woven into our tapestry,” said Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice’s general entertainment executive.
