RIP: Mpho Sebeng’s family speaks out following his death Late 31-year-old Mzansi actor Mpho Sebeng‘s family has confirmed his untimely death on Sunday, 5 May, following a car accident in Potchefstroom, North West. “The family of the South Africa entertainer, Mpho Sebeng are saddened to confirm, to the public and media that their son has indeed passed away.

“Whilst the family appreciates the immense outpouring of love and condolences, the family requests some space to process the news,” read the statement.

The Sebeng family further said that details of the much-loved actor’s memorial and funeral services will be communicated in due course.“We request that you continue to hold the Sebeng family in prayer. Take care of yourselves and take care of each other.”

Sebeng had been in the acting industry for almost 20 years. His first television debut was on Justice For All as well as Zero Tolerance, which later went to win multiple awards.He further got roles on Bay of Plenty, eTV’s Scandal and The Throne. While in high school, he received his most prominent role on Winnie (the story about the life of the late Winnie Mandela) where he played Tsietsi and got to meet box office actors Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard.Ring of lies was the late actor’s first major lead role on prime time television. His performance earned him a nomination at the 2018 South African Film & Television awards for “Best Male Actor” in a telenovela. Sebeng has also had acting roles on Netflix shows Savage Beauty and Miseducation.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation sent its condolences to the Sebeng family, saying: “The SABC is saddened by the untimely passing of the actor Mpho Sebeng. His immense contribution to the entertainment industry will never be forgotten. The SABC extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans.”Mpho Sebeng really entertained us and delivered well on his Neo character on Ring of Lies, that was when he won me over as a fan. Rest in peace Boi, life is indeed the shortest thing we have [sic],” said one fan on X.

Another fan said: “This is a Mpho Sebeng appreciation post. He was on Soul Buddyz, Zibondiwe, Scandal, Ring Of Lies,The Throne, Savage Beauty. He was a brilliant actor and a talent. I wish he was given his Ffowers while still alive to smell. What a lose in acting industry [sic].”
