Review: Why Muvhango Is Losing Viewers
Muvhango used to be such a joy to watch when it had the Mojalefa’s when Rendani was rebellious towards her royal family. And when Thandaza Mukwevho (The River’s Lindiwe) played by Sindi Dlathu was still around) and when Meme and KK were messing up each other.
But even before the show started losing its most talented actors, the SABCkept messing up behind the scenes; salary disputes, etc. But it’s not just the SABC that caused the show’s downfall; there have been several sexual harassment cases over the years that have been swept under the rug and still being swept under the rug in 2020.
The show’s viewership ratings keep declining because they’re not giving their viewers what they want. It’s one thing to lose good actors from resignations and another thing to kill great actors with promising storylines. If you’re going to lose both ways and have the same storylines and the same actors left, then there’s no reason for me to keep coming back to your show.
They recently introduced us to The River’s Siya Sepotokele who played Imani’s boyfriend and killed him. It was so shallow and depressing … they couldn’t even wait for cancer to kill him; they killed him in a car accident.
For as long as they keep boring characters like Gizarra, Sharon, and Marang, the show will definitely not increase its viewership ratings and will eventually get canned like Isidingo because viewers have optional shows to watch at 9 pm.
The recent resignation of Khathu Ramabulana who played Hulisani (Rendani’s husband) was a huge loss to the show. It doesn’t matter who they replace him with, because it won’t make a difference. He is a talented actor who’s featured in Netflix’s Shadow with Skeem Saam’s Amanda du Pont and Isibaya’s Palance Dladla. He also recently played William Khathela in Netflix’s Queen Sono alongside Pearl Thusi and Generations’ Vuyo Dabula
