Mzansi has been in celebration mode since news of Beyoncé’s upcoming album, #BlackisKing, emerged and it was revealed that five SA stars are featured in the pro-black film.

Connie Chiume, Nandi Madida, Nyaniso Dzedze, Warren Masemola and My Power collaborator Moonchild Sanelly feature in the much-anticipated film, and Mzansi loves to see it.

All the Mzansi stars included in the video have a “bold and proud” love for Africa in common, and we have all the receipts.

Veteran actress Connie not only represented SA in Black Panther, but has been doing the most to show what Mzansi has to offer for more than three decades.

Warren has professed his love for the continent many times on his socials, and Nyaniso has participated in debates and conversations around what the modern African man looks like.

Both Moonchild and Nandi have also done their bit to showcase their pride in their Africaness through their style, fashion, music and other artistic expressions.

Black Is King is written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé. The visual album inspired by The Lion King will be coming to the Disney Plus streaming service on July 31.

The film is based on the music of The Lion King: The Gift, released last year in conjunction with the Disney pic, and stars the album’s featured artists and special guest appearances. The Beyoncé-produced album features Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter and Jessie Reyez, among others, as well as African artists including Wizkid, Shatta Wale, Burna Boy, Busiswa and Moonchild.

The amazing one-minute trailer has been on replay for most of us, and of course it’s mainly to see our own #BlackMagic shine.

Radio veteran Bob Mabena is mourning the death of his grandmother to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The star revealed on Sunday that his grandmother had died just days earlier after contracting the disease.

Sharing his condolences with a follower who had lost his mother, Bob recounted how his grandmother had contracted the disease while she was being treated in hospital for a lung infection.

He said within three days she had died.

“The hospitals aren’t ready,” he said.Dear minister @DrZweliMkhize. Thank you for your relentless efforts in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Please know that when you give your Stats today, 1 of the deceased is my 54yr old mother.
I know your dedication sir and am truly grateful. I do know that no one can stop death.Bob said the burial protocols were difficult and brought home the reality of the disease.

The SA Cemeteries Association (Saca) released guidelines in March outlining how to bury or cremate someone who has died of Covid-19. The guidelines were released in preparation for “mass burials and cremation of Covid-19 victims”.

Saca said: “In anticipation of the increase in the death rate, municipalities are recommended to put plans in place if this has not already been done.

“Ideally, remains should be cremated, as advised by health authorities locally and internationally. However, this may pose a challenge as SA has very few crematorium facilities.”

It recommended that municipalities identify land that can be used if deaths overwhelm the capacity of cemeteries , and “bodies should be buried in clearly marked individual graves”.

Lockdown rules prohibit more than 50 people attending a funeral, and all night vigils.

“Cheers to life! Today we celebrate as we have made it halfway through our 14 days of quarantine! Last weekend my partner tested positive for Covid-19, and I immediately went to be tested he following day. Two days later it was confirmed. ‘This is a dangerous game’ – DJ Warras on taxi strike showdown

Radio host DJ Warras has warned that a showdown between the government and taxi bosses was shaping up to be “a dangerous game”.

The SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) announced on Sunday that from Monday, taxis would run at 100% capacity and long-distance taxis would resume operations. The council also rejected the government’s offer of R1.315bn in Covid-19 relief, as it says the amount is insufficient to make up for losses during the lockdown.Transport minister Fikile Mbalula pleaded with the taxi industry to reconsider its announcement and said such measures were prohibited under current lockdown regulations.

“It is rather unfortunate and regrettable that the taxi industry leadership has elected to violate the law and forcefully load taxis at 100% capacity and undertake interprovincial operations without the requisite permits, rather than await a decision on the matters they have tabled.”

He said the regulations would be enforced, leading to a stand-off.

DJ Warras’ family owns taxis and the star said he felt sorry for metro police who would need to enforce the regulations.

“This is a dangerous game, and it will not end well. So — check that balance on that 600bil and sort it out,” he said, suggesting that the government look into meeting Santaco’s demands for more relief funding.

He said the stand-off needed to be avoided so that the economy can recover.
He said that in the end it was commuters who would pay the price.

“By the time government makes time to talk — it will be how many days of 100% loads? By that time how many will be infected? So even if they agree on Thursday – Monday to Wednesday, millions will have been put at risk …

“Unfortunately people can’t stay home — their jobs are their livelihood. They don’t have a choice. They can’t fight the taxi drivers, rank managers, etc, they need to get to work. And now it’s at the cost of their safety. What a mess.”

Warras also weighed in on the dispute at the start of the taxi strike last week, asking why the government would not give the taxi industry more, saying the industry is vital to the economy and “deserved” the help.

“The billions they’re asking for to observe the rules for Covid-19 – and transport the workforce daily – is worth paying,” he said.
