Diep City Actress Zikhona Bali (Asanda) Exits The Show

Zikhona Bali, who plays Pastor Charleston’s girlfriend Asanda in DiepCity, will leave the show in December before it wraps up in March.

Zikhona Bali, who appeared in DiepCity two years ago as Pastor Charleston’s (Chrispen Nyathi) girlfriend Asanda, tells Sowetan:

“If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be leaving DiepCity and a character I grew to love. But I understand that it’s the end of the road for Asanda much like all storylines. I’ve never played the role of a pastor’s side chick who’s a criminal; with that role, I had to navigate my feelings on how best to execute Asanda to viewers as authentic as possible. Asanda is dearly loved by those around her because at first, she seemed sweet and angelic only to turn out the exact opposite.”

Her character is currently struggling with drug addiction and becomes involved in shady dealings with Charleston.

“She gets caught up in the land of dodgy dealings with her pastor boyfriend and battling drug addiction… how she’ll exit the show will certainly shake viewers. I’ve loved acting on the set, I’ve loved the people I worked with on the show and playing Asanda, but now I have to step away and find Zikhona again.”

In an August interview with the Daily Sun, Black Brain Pictures confirmed that the telenovela will not return for a third season when its second season concludes in March 2023.

House Of Zwide Faith Zwide’s Story Line Faces Criticism

Viewers are up in arms following Faith Zwide’s new story line on eTV’s House of Zwide. After falling from grace, Faith Zwide hits a setback as she goes back to township to start from humble beginnings.

Viewers are complaining that Faith Zwide’s story line portrayed by renowned actress Winnie Ntshaba sounds a little too familiar. As she falls from grace, living at the Zwide mansion after all it is said and done she heads back to the township to rebuild.

This particular story line has hit a soft spot with the viewers as they feel as though it has been played out too many times on many Mzansi’s telenovela’s. Taking to Twitter, entertainment commentator Phil Mphela has strike a nerve with some of House of Zwide’s viewers as he complains about Faith Zwide’s recycled story line.

“Mara House of Zwide, This Faith falls from grace … she loses everything, leaves the mansion and returns to Tembisa is way too familiar. It been done on The River. Thati on Gomora’s anchor story is the same” wrote entertainment commentator Phil Mphela

Some viewers are more upset at some of Mzansi’s creatives, whom they believe tends to write different shows for different channels. Evidently, lines are always bound to be blurred when the same people are the head writers of some of these telenovela’s and series.
