THE Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, is happy to have finished her honours degree.

She completed honours in management practices and leadership from the Henley Business School in December.

The iconic singer spoke to Daily Sun about going back to school.

“I went back to school because I sit on different boards, and some of them are international. If you go there and you’ve got no knowledge, it becomes a mission, and that’s what inspired me to do management practices and leadership. However, it was terrible. Academic writing is not easy, but I’m glad I did it,” she said.

“I’m thinking about it. With my honours I was ready, and I thought let me just do it, and I tackled it. It wasn’t easy, but I did it. At least as adults, they give you different times and cohorts. But this master’s degree is 24 months because it’s a British university, the University of Reading, which is part of Henley.

You can study here, but there are classes where you must go to England. I need to think if I really want to do it. The Honours degree was intense, but apparently, when you’re done with your honours, the master’s degree is slightly easier, but I’m not sure,” she said.

Mam’ Yvonne has been working on remixing her hit singles.

“Music-wise, I’ve just done a remix of Makoti, Kwenzenjani and Power of Africa with a Ghanaian producer. Some of the remixes were made in Ghana, and others in Nigeria. I also did a remix of our song Murume Mukuru (Tapera) with Oliver Mtukudzi and Hugh Masekela.

“I’ll also be paying tribute to Oliver Mtukudzi at this year’s Joy of Jazz. I’m glad they are doing that for our people. I’ll be singing Tapera,” mam Yvonne said.

Singer Sbu Noah, whose real name is Sbusiso Mthembu, told Daily Sun because they sing about being holy, it should make sense for them to also practice what they sing.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the 38-year-old Ewe Getsemane hitmaker from Umlazi in Durban said: “We always think when someone sings about something, it’s because they know about it or most importantly, it’s something they live.”If I sing about holiness, you probably expect me to be holy because that’s what I sing about. I don’t want people to take this wrong, but having said that, it’s important Christians also go through challenges everyone goes through. The Bible says we shouldn’t judge,” he said. He said it’s important for Christians to always practice what they preach.

“It helps to live what we say and must also help each other to do things the right way,” he said.

SbuNoah shared about his latest single, Hlala Nami Jesu which talks about God being there for them in their darkest moments.

“Even though the song is a prayer to God to walk with us, I’d like them to take away exactly that message, that God will be with you always. As they listen to this song and pray while singing along, I hope people feel God’s warm embrace and assurance that no matter what they go through, God is always with them till the end of time.”

He said he felt God’s hand when his mum died in 2021.

“My mum was the pillar of our family, and when she passed, God didn’t leave us,” he said.

THE past few years have been tough for actor and TV presenter Zola Hashatsi.

He has lost a lot of his friends in the industry from Kuli Roberts to Siyanda Sesimani, Bruno Majola, Phil Hlophe and most recently, Mpho Sebeng.

Zola (35) is popularly known as the one who confirms all the deaths of celebs by people on social media. He opened up to Daily Sun about losing his friends and how he’s dealing with it.

“My manager said I’m the angel of death, and I should stop posting RIPs. The thing is, I care about the industry. I can’t just be posting nonsensical things. We must be real. We are losing people in the industry, and I think we must take care of each other, dead or alive.
“But I’m not going to lie, it’s been painful from Akhumzi to Dumi Masilela, to Siyanda Sesimani to Citilyts, Zahara to Mpho. Losing talented young people hurts, and I’m not saying losing old people is better. Someone you just spoke to now, you can’t even delete their numbers. Like Mpho, he was working on a new show that’s coming soon. The work was not done. It’s been painful,” he said.The former Rhythm City actor and Craz-e presenter has started going to therapy.

“I think I felt a little bit of depression coming because losing people that are younger than you, people that had potential, it’s emotionally, physically and mentally draining. It’s like someone ripped your heart out. But to talk about it helps,” he said.

Zola said all these celeb deaths have taught him some lessons.

“I’ve learnt that time is important, and so is showing up, changing things, and living every day like it’s your last. Having funeral policies is especially important, as well as learning financial literacy. We can’t pass away as artists all the time, and we run to the media and ask for donations. Policies should be there.

“There’s a lesson in all that’s happening. We need to learn because death can happen to anyone. No one is special. Unfortunately, we’re all going to die. That’s why I support all these families. This could happen to me,” he said.
