Natasha Thahane received R1m from government

Natasha is the granddaughter of South African Anglican Archbishop, Desmond Tutu. She told MacG that back in 2017, she got accepted at the New York Film Academy in the US and she needed funding.

She applied for funding at various organisations but no one responded back, she went as far as writing an email to the Barack Obama Foundation in hopes of getting assistance, sadly that failed too. But not until the school she attended assisted her to get in contact with the department.

In 2017 Baleka Mbete was the speaker of parliament and the ANC chairperson. She made a call saying ” Mama, i need to go back to school. I have been accepted. I don’t know what I’m going to do, can i have funds? Mbete managed to speak to the department of Arts and Culture and they were able to help me.” she said.

Social media users were furious by her “flaunting” and displaying how easy it is for her to get help from government than it is for other’s in worse financial struggle.

Natasha tried to explain by sharing screenshots of emails sent to the department, that she unfortunately did not receive any response back.
