This comes after the Kwaito star, whose real name was Nomasonto Maswanganyi, died earlier this week due to complications caused by diabetes.

The ceremony was broadcast live on YouTube for those who wished to join in honouring the life of the late musician. The likes of Khanyi Mbau, Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Mzwakhe Mbuli were in attendance and paid their last respects to Mshoza. Mshoza’s children delivered a moving eulogy in honour of their late mother and Jub Jub performed his “Ndikhokhele” remix alongside other artists as they paid homage to the queen of kwaito.

Khanyi Mbau described Mshoza’s loss as a huge loss to the industry and South Africa as a whole. “If resilience and staying power was a person it would be her. We may cry but legends never die, they find a place in our hearts, in history and the fibre of our culture as it evolves in going forward. We allow her to rest and take her place in the sky with all the musical gods,” Khanyi said.

The funeral procession moved to Westpark Cemetery in Montgomery Park where Mshoza was buried and we were never ready to hear her children crying and asking her to wake up as the casket went down. Mshoza’s tombstone was also revealed and it looked amazing and truly embodied her personality and the fact that she lived her life to the fullest.The tombstone has taken us back down memory lane to some of the most notable celeb tombstones we’ve seen:

Following Robbie’s passing from pancreating cancer in 2017, his tombstone also trended on social media because the life-sized statue didn’t look like him. It had to be redone and unveiled again. The tombstone was reportedly made by a team of 15 people and cost around R500 000.

Dumi Masilela
Dumi was shot dead in a botched hijacking in 2017. His rotating tombstone reportedly weighed 2 tonnes and cost over R160 000 to make.

Mandoza
Mandoza died on 18 September 2016. According to his family he was being treated for pharyngeal cancer and had lost his eyesight before he died.

Flabba
Flabba was stabbed to death by his girlfriend in 2015. He was 38 years old.

Simba Mhere
The Top Billing presenter died in a car accident in 2015.

Mary Twala
Somizi’s mother passed away this year and was buried during the peak of lockdown. She was buried next to her late husband Ndaba Mhlongo.
