Maimane, former Econ Oil employees want the business to be relaunched.

Mmusi Maimane, the head of Build One SA (BOSA), and former employees of Econ Oil and Energy, a business that once supplied oil to Eskom’s power plants, want the business to restart.

‘I’m not leaving politics,’ says Maimane after joining SiSebenza as a partner

After losing a multibillion rand deal with Eskom in a court decision in 2020, the business was shut down. Judge Bashier Vally, who rendered a judgment against the firm, acknowledged that his decision to decide in Eskom’s favor was materially flawed.

On Monday, a small group of former employees and BOSA members marched to the Econ Oil and Energy facility at Marble Hall, Sekhukhune. Mmusi Maimane, the head of BOSA, claims that because so few workers were kept when the mill closed, the area now has a high unemployment rate.

Maimane also promises to talk to Eskom regarding the legal case. Since it was finally decided that the judge had examined both his own statement and his ruling, “We will without a doubt be engaging the leadership and board of Eskom. As a result, Build One SA would like to request a meeting with the board chairperson and promote a procedure that encourages greater involvement. Make sure the ruling is overturned, and then let’s talk about the contractual issue to get South Africans back to being allowed to work.

Econ Oil and Energy plant representative Tinyiko Mabasa accepted the message and pledged to address the demands as soon as possible.
