‘I saw visions’: Mbongeni Ngema details Sarafina inspiration

The late playwright Mbongeni Ngema detailed his inspiration for Sarafina, saying he saw visions.

Sarafina remains one of the finest and most loved films ever produced in South Africa.Its relevancy to the country’s road to freedom has made it a customary movie and a reflection of liberty. Ngema died in an accident to see one of his finest works.


 

 

 

Indeed, South Africa would be among the best if many young playwrights could be inspired and reach the eleven of Ngema.Mbongeni’s work on Sarafina gave birth to some of the country’s finest entertainers.

Speaking of how he found the inspiration for Sarafina, Mbongeni Ngema said of the journey.

He started speaking about the depth of the content in Sarafina, saying it would live forever.

Mbongeni was sitting with Mama Winnie Mandela when the concept started approaching him.

While driving home, Ngma started seeing visions of young people crying.
