DJ Zinhle not ready for Durban after AKA’s death

Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was gunned down outside a restaurant in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on February 10.

Zinhle and AKA have a daughter, Kairo, together.

The city is going to be a hot spot for the entertainment industry in July, with many celebs flocking to the highly anticipated Cotton Festival and Durban July, among other events.Zinhle was set to perform at the Fact Durban Rocks event at the Durban July, but has since said she is not comfortable to travel to Durban yet.

“I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban. Emotionally, I’m not ready at all. I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban. It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durban,” she said.

“I’m going through the most. Forget about seeing me in Durban. It’s not even that I am mad at Durban. It’s just hard. It’s only been three months since Kiernan died, so maybe with time. But I’m hoping I never change my mind.”

She said she was also a little anxious about Father’s Day next month.

“What am I going to say to Kairo on Father’s Day?”AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes has also shared how she needs time before visiting Durban and the spot where her son took his last breath.

During her interview on Carol Ofori’s show on East Coast Radio, she said: “I don’t believe I would never go back to Durban again. I think it’s natural at the moment. I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment. It’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much.

“So it’s not Durban as a place, it’s not Durban as people. I think Kiernan loved Durban, his fan base is there, and the Megacy is alive in Durban.

“One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there. I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there anymore, but that is the last place where he was alive.”
