Connie Chiume (Mam Sonto) gears up to receive a Top Hollywood Lifetime Achievement Award!

Gomora actress Connie Chiume who plays Mam Sonto on Gomora shared some exciting news on her Instagram that she will be jetting out to the USA this October. Two significant events are taking place for The Black Panther. The first one is the Premier of the second instalment of the most anticipated movie of 2022, The Black Panther Wakanda Forever, which will happen on the 26th of October, just a few days before she receives her Award.

The Hollywood Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony will take place on the 29th of October. Connie called the coincidence of these two events “Remarkable” and recognised it as a pat on the back for her.

Mme Connie Chiume expressed gratitude for the accolades she is receiving for her work. A few weeks ago, she received her first Lifetime Achievement award at the South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA).

“2 Lifetime awards in the space of two months? God, thank you,” the actress said in her post. Mrs Chiume said that it means a lot to her as an actress to see her work taken seriously globally; she said this award is the second award she is receiving from overseas.

Speaking to Tshisalive, the actress said she had been blessed with many great highlights in her career in entertainment. Mam Connie says the first time she was on the world stage was in a play called Shola Shola which she performed in Greece, and in another one where she was cast to play as a singer in a classic American Opera play.

The Gomora actress said that the highest honour in her career was to star in a Marvel Studio movie. She said she was grateful to be a part of something as big and historical as The Black Panther. Mme Connie is one of the most treasured actresses in South Africa. She has featured in many great Television Productions, and stage plays in the country.

She talked about the importance of improving the conditions of actors in the country, saying she wishes there were unions they could join to get better payments. Connie said that she wanted all actors could receive their royalties as well.


 

 

 

 

The multi Award winner does recognise that some improvements have happened in the South African entertainment industry compared to the olden days. She says she appreciates the exposure of local artists internationally and that new talent is emerging in the industry.
