King Misuzulu KaZwelithini, the new Zulu King, sent a royal delegation to pay lobola for his longtime sweetheart, Ntokozo Mayisela, on Thursday after officially registering their marriage with the Department of Home Affairs last Thursday.
The high-powered delegation from Nongoma’s KwaKhangelamankengane palace is scheduled to arrive in Newcastle, northern KZN, about 4 p.m. and then drive back to the king to report on the operation.
The new king, 47, and the queen, 36, have two children together (3 and 9) and the king has two more children with other women. For the time being, it is unclear if he will marry them as well.
According to Independent Media, the Mayisela family requested eight cows and R50,000 in cash. The monarch agreed to pay it at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
“Right now, as I speak with you, we are inside the farm choosing the best cows to present to the Mayisela family at 4 p.m. today. We won’t stay the night; instead, we’ll present our cows and return. We happily obliged when they requested eight cows and R50 000 in cash,” a royal source told Independent Media on Thursday morning.
The king’s and Zulu nation’s traditional prime minister, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, had not yet replied to questions from Independent Media about the lobola delegation. As soon as he submits his comment, it will be included.
While the new queen lives in Pinetown, Durban, her ancestral home is in Newcastle, a coal mining area, and it is there that all traditional royal ceremonies will take place.
According to other royal outlets, the new queen will attend the upcoming royal meeting on Friday. Following the conference, King Misuzulu and the queen will depart for Eswatini to bid King Mswati III farewell before returning to their royal duties.
