Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi burnt in Hospital

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has faced many problems affecting his life.

Most recently, last week he had a terrible accident when he was scalded with boiling water, which left him with a burnt arm.

As a diabetic, he does not recover easily and has been in and out of the intensive care unit at a private hospital in Durban for weeks.

However, last weekend as there are a few days left before he turns 95 next Sunday, he was seen gazing out the window at the “beautiful sea in Durban,” according to an inside source.

After he was discharged from the intensive care unit on Wednesday, there were signs that he had recovered from his arm and treatment for back pain.”

His diabetes condition has raised concerns about a possible slow recovery, but Buthelezi’s fitness appears to be a positive sign. His chances of recovery are high: The Zulu Prime Minister encountered more complications while in the intensive care unit, including a lung infection.

As he approaches his 95th birthday on August 27, good wishes and good wishes have been pouring in from far away.

Remuneration criteria for SA actors revealed

Social media was set abuzz after entertainment commentator Phil Mphela dropped a tweet on South African actors’ salaries.

The post has since thrust several actors into top trends as viewers try to connect the dots on how much their favourite stars earn for their on-screen charactersHowever, in the backdrop of the tweet, former Scandal actor Hungani Ndlovu best known for his on-screen character of Romeo Medupe, made it known that the amounts were misguided since top-tier actors earn less than the given amount after deductions. He also made it known that soapie actors’ salaries are also affected by deductions.

Over the years, showrunners have remunerated their cast based on several variables, including role prominence, experience, time on scenes and craft competence.

The entertainment industry doesn’t work on a ‘one size fits all policy’ hence remunerations differ because of production houses’ policies, budgets, cast and viewership.

Despite production companies keeping their remunerations under wraps, fans have guessed some of South Africa’s highest-paid actors given the alleged remuneration criteria.

South Africans were more than convinced that Connie Ferguson, best known for her on-screen character of Harriet Khoza on the now-canned drama series The Queen, is one of the most paid actors in Mzansi.

MZANSI LISTS POSSIBLE HIGH EARNERS
Seasoned actors Siyabonha Twala, Leleti Khumalo, Connie Chuime, Sindi Dlathu, Sello Maake-ka Ncube, Vusi Kunene and Tony Kgoroge also dominate the list of star actors who are allegedly said to be top earners of small screens.

Over the years, several actors have rubbished the claims that say acting is one of the most paying jobs within the entertainment industry in South Africa. Several production houses have often hogged headlines for the wrong reasons in recent years.

Many have been accused of failing to pay their cast, while others have been accused of exploitation and poor working conditions.

Sbahle Mpisane on ’90 Minutes in Heaven’

Reminiscing about her almost fatal car accident that took place a few years ago, Sbahle Mpisane went down memory lane after watching a movie called 90 Minutes In Heaven on Saturday, 19 August, and explained why she resonated with the main character.

In 2022, Sbahle Mpisane barred it all in an exclusive interview with YouTuber Owamie Netshivhazwaulu and shed some light on the life-changing car accident that took place on 9 August 2018. She admitted that she had been drinking but said her accident was caused by other factors including another speeding drunk driver.

In an Instagram post, she has previously shared that the accident caused her to break 80 per cent of her bones.

“I was like a toasted slice of bread that was crumpled up! In all honesty, my eyes were hanging out, my nose was completely broken, my brain was visible on view (that damage resulted in amnesia), my arms were broken including my beautiful hands, and my left knee, ankle plus toes were broken and my right foot was badly broken from my hip, thigh, knee, foot, toe, [and], my ankle bone was completely discharged out of my foot at the scene,” she said.

Following her accident, Mpisane opened up about her failed suicide attempts on her Instagram Stories.

“In 2018 while in hospital I attempted to hang myself but my nurse walked in just as I did so. In 2019, I well planned my suicide attempt but woke up four days later,” IOL quoted her as saying.

‘I DON’T KNOW HOW I SURVIVED: MORE ABOUT THE ACCIDENT
On Saturday, Sbahle Mpisane resonated with Don Piper in the movie 90 Minutes In Heaven. According to IMBd, the 2015 drama is about a man who gets involved in a horrific car crash and is pronounced dead, only to come back to life shortly after, claiming to have seen heaven.

“[The] movie I am currently watching [is called] 90 Minutes In Heaven. A true story of Don’s experience with death and life. Nearly all his bones were broken, sustained massive brain damage, experienced countless monthly surgeries, dealt with a serious period of depression & prayed to not awake anymore,” Mpisane wrote on Threads.

“His wife, kids, friends, etc didn’t understand why he developed [a] hatred for them & the world. But to speak from experience, no one understands how physically & mentally uncomfortable the survival & recovery phase is,” she said.

“I don’t know how I survived! I don’t know how my bones strengthened again for me to manage to walk, gym, swim, skip & study today. None of it all would have been possible again but God answered my prayer list in his timing,” she added.
