‘Gqeberha: The Empire’ Fans: ‘Luzuko is a weak, dumb character’

Gqeberha: The Empire fans are unimpressed with actor Mbulelo Grootboom’s acting skills and his character, Luzuko Mxenge on the show. While viewers of the Mzansi Magic telenovela Gqeberha: The Empire agree that Grootboom has been a great actor on other shows, fans acknowledge that the role of Luzuko was not meant for him.

@Thereal_Shazz: “And he is a good actor, I don’t know why he isn’t doing justice to this character.”

Another fan @qhasi2, compared Grootboom’s role to Hlomla Dandala’s character, Zweli Dikana in The River and said the character was badly written and there’s nothing he can do about it.

“There’s nothing he can do. The character is badly written. This is why Hlomla Dandala left The River. Playing a dumb character must be frustrating. Everyone around him is scheming. And he can’t see it. But he’s supposed to be this big self-made mogul. Unrealistic.”

Viewers of the Mzansi Magic telenovela had high hopes for the actor when he joined the show but were left disappointed in his delivery as Luzuko.

TVSA reports that the actor has starred in TV shows such as Die Sentrum, Traffic, Suidooster, Z’bondiwe, Teknet, Roots, Ring of Lies and many more.

@kgotsohopelekau: “For the first time – Bullet aka Bulelwa stood up for herself in this depressing marriage. Luzuko is such a embarrassment of a man.”

@kgotsohopelekau: “Today on #GqeberhaTheEmpire Firstly, Luzuko – This character… In the words of Zuki Lamani ‘shock me’. I have never seen a character that is this easily fooled and swindler! Bullet and Nobomi are two people he shouldn’t even doubt… They been so faithful to him.”

@Angeligue4luv: “I can’t believe that Luzuko is this gullible, he actually believes ukuthi Bulewa and Nobomi will do him dirty.”

@badgyalreneilwe: “There’s no way Luzuko became that wealthy with his management skills. What a stupid man.”

Venue confirmed for Miss World 2023 pageant

The 2023 Miss World beauty contest will be held in the disputed territory of Indian-administered Kashmir as part of a month-long series of events across India, have said.

This year’s pageant, which will be the 71st, will be held on Friday, 8 December.

Control of the Muslim-majority territory is split between India and Pakistan, both of whom claim it in full but administer separate portions, divided by the Line of Control.

For decades, an insurgency seeking independence or a merger with Pakistan – and military operations to crush that movement – have seen tens of thousands of civilians, soldiers and rebels killed.

But India is now promoting tourism in the region – home to spectacular mountain scenery – and more than a million Indian citizens visited last year.

Miss World Organisation chair Julia Morley said that India will host a month-long series of events for the annual international beauty pageant from November to December, with part of the schedule to be held in Kashmir.

“This is a blessed place for tourism,” Morley told reporters while on a visit to Srinagar on Monday, the region’s main city.

Competitors will take part in “talent showcases, sports challenges, and charitable initiatives” to shortlist participants before the grand finale in December, the organisation said.

Miss World organisers say the contest “celebrates the beauty, intellect, and humanitarian efforts of women”.

The pageant has in the past sparked protests from critics who say it perpetuates the objectification of women and contributes to a beauty industry that pressures women to appear a certain way.

In May, India hosted a G20 tourism meeting in Srinagar under tight security in a bid to show that what officials call “normalcy and peace” were returning after a massive crackdown following New Delhi’s revocation of the region’s limited autonomy in 2019.

Dissent has been criminalised, media freedoms curbed and public protests limited in what critics say is a drastic curtailment of civil liberties by Indian authorities.

Miss World 2022 Karolina Bielawska said she was stunned by Kashmir’s scenery.

“I cannot wait to welcome 140 nations, and all my friends and family, to bring them here to India and to show them places like Kashmir, like Delhi, Mumbai… you have so many beautiful places”, the Polish model said on Monday.

No sympathy for Nandipha’s sad court appearance

Not for the first time, Thabo Bester’s co-accused and rumoured girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana has been accused of playing on the public’s sympathies.

In a bail appearance on Tuesday, 29 August, the celebrity aesthetics doctor appeared sad and sorrowful.

At one point, cameras zoomed in as tears poured down her face.Nandipha Magudumana appeared alone in the dock during her bail application at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.

The mother-of-two and ten others – including Thabo Bester – are accused of helping the latter escape the Mangaung Correctional Centre last year.

But unlike her previous appearance, where she held hands and looked lovingly in Bester’s eyes, the prominent businesswoman appeared sad and dejected this time. While wearing an immaculately made-up face and sophisticated hairstyle, Magudumana kept her eyes down as her bail application was read in court.

There were no smiles or waves at the public gallery. Instead, Nandipha shed tears while her attorney claimed that Bester had “forced” her.

Take a look at scenes from the court…Nandipha’s appearance comes just days after she claims that she was abused by many men in her life, possibly including Thabo Bester.

ABUSED WOMAN?
Shortly after Nandipha’s arrest in Tanzania alongside Thabo Bester, a WhatsApp voicenote from the latter went viral.

In the audio clip is what appears to be Bester verbally abusing and threatening to “kill” his partner in crime. However, in the court of public opinion, her loving behaviour towards the convicted rapist and murderer cast doubt on the validity of the incidents above.

NO SYMPATHY FOR TEARS
Although Nandipha may have intended to appear helpless and sad in court on Tuesday, many social media users saw claimed they saw through her seeming facade.

Entertainment personality Phil Mphela was the first to call her out, tweeting: “I bet Dr Nandipha watches all the media coverage around her. She must have seen the body language analysis around her last appearance.

“Today, because she wants sympathy, she looks so dejected. Actress, or she is finally seeing the writing on the wall?
