Actor Lemogang Tsipa: ‘My dad is Pedi, mom is Tswana’

Comedians Mpho Popps, Tsitsi Chiumya and Robot Boii had ‘Shaka Ilembe’ lead actor Lemogang Tsipa as their guest in ‘Popcorn and Cheese’.The talented actor Lemogang Tsipa reveals in the Popcorn and Cheese interview that none of his parents are Zulu and says his Pedi father and Tswana mother met at the University of Zululand.

“I am very grateful for them for raising me in that part of the world otherwise I wouldn’t be sitting here.”

Tsipa revealed to The Citizen that he is unbothered by social media who said he wasn’t the right actor for the role of Shaka in Shaka Ilembe.

Tsipa has been dragged by some social media users as he doesn’t have a Zulu name, while some revealed he doesn’t look as intimidating as Henry Cele, who first played the role of Shaka in the 1986 TV show, Shaka Zulu.

The Popcorn and Cheese podcasters Robot Boii, Mpho Popps and Tsitsi Chiumya trended on social media when they featured Tsipa in their Shaka iLembe skit titled Shaya Mpama.

In the video, Robot Boii portrays the character of Shaya (not Shaka) while co-host Mpho Popps is King Dingi Dingi of the Scima (Slap) tribe parodying Thembinkosi Mthembu’s role King Dingiswayo on Shaka iLembe.

Limpopo-born comedian Tsitsi Chiumya, who is covered in baby powder portrays Queen Ntombazi’s son from the Mzansi Magic drama series.

‘SHAKA ILEMBE’ SECOND SEASON
MultiChoice announced earlier this month that Shaka Ilembe is set to make a return for a second season and TV show is committed to honouring the iconic figure of King Shaka.

“MultiChoice is really committed to telling the Shaka iLembe story, and this Season 2 announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story on air,” said MultiChoice General Entertainment CEO Nomsa Philiso in a statement.

Sunday World reports that the cast will continue to be led by globally recognised star Nomzamo Mbatha and schedules for season two have not been released but the channel said it will be a remake, introducing more faces to the drama series.

“The fact that viewers across South Africa, and indeed the continent have been so passionately supportive of the show, tuning in to watch weekly, sharing their commentary online and really engaging with this layered story of the Nguni kingdoms, has been fantastic. We are looking forward to bringing season two to life,” added Philiso in a statement.

First Miss Universe with afro-texture hair: Where is Zozi Tunzi now?

ZOZIBINI TUNZI MAKES HISTORY
Former Miss SA (2019) Zozibini Tunzi made history as Miss Universe for several reasons. Firstly, she was the first black woman with afro-texture hair to win the pageant, according to Allure.

She was also the longest reigning Miss Universe with a reign of a total of 525 days (one year, five months and eight days). This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Zozi surpassed Leila Lopes’ reign of 464 days (one year, three months and seven days) from September 2011 to December 2012.

She also became the third woman from South Africa to win the international pageant. She follows in the footsteps of Margaret Gardiner (1978) and Demi-Leigh Tebow (2017). The beauty queen was also the first black woman to be crowned Miss Universe in eight years after Lopes in 2011.

Zozi holds a degree in Public Relations Management from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

WHERE IS MISS SA 2019 NOW?
During her reign as Miss Universe, the beauty queen lived in New York City. She thereafter returned to South Africa to focus on her mental health foundation. She has since bagged presenting and acting gigs on TV and film such as role on The Woman King.

She remained in touch with the Miss SA Organisation as she was one of the judges on the Miss SA reality show Crown Chasers. However, rumours surrounding wardrobe drama on the show began to surface after Zozi was absent from the Miss SA 2023 pageant, where Natasha Joubert was crowned the winner.
