“Excited to finally share the news! @a_daniel_steyn and I have been working on a book for the past few months, and we’re finally able to reveal the cover🙌🏾🎉 The Thabo Bester Story will be available in bookstores nationwide on 27 October. This project follows in the vein of our reporting for @groundup_news, which exposed Bester’s escape from prison in May 2022. The book includes everything we know to date,” Damons shared.

Thabo Bester became South Africa’s most talked about fugitive after he pulled off his generous plan to escape from the maximum security prison, Mangaung Correctional Centre in 2022. He staged his own death by starting a fire in his prison cell and dumping the lifeless body of Katlego Bereng in his place. He then went on to live his life among citizens with his celebrity doctor girlfriend Dr. Nandipha Magudumana. However, several months after his successful escape, he was spotted shopping in a mall with Magudumana and the love birds skipped the country shortly after their photos trended on social media. Unfortunately for them, two weeks after being on the run, they were nabbed in Tanzania in possession of several passports with different names. They were brought back to South Africa where they have been facing trial for the past few months. In the meantime, Bester is currently awaiting his next court case in the C-Max section of Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre, meanwhile, Magudumana awaits trial at the Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Kroonstad, EWN reported.

ZOLEKA MANDELA REVEALS SHE HAS BLOOD CLOTS AND FIBROSIS
In an Instagram post, the When Hope Whispers author shared a video of herself wearing her signature smile and captioned it:

“17.09.2023 – I had a CT Scan administered a few weeks back, which have shown that I have blood clots as well as Fibrosis in my lung. This explains the chest pains I had been feeling.

“My Medical Oncologist has recommended blood thinners and Oral Chemo. On the upside, I’m incredibly grateful that I am still treatable! I’m off to bed … Good night … Good morning, beloved hearts! Love, the Oros Lady (I feel like my face just gets more rotund and puffy by the day!) Peace. Passion. Positivity.”Zoleka, who is the granddaughter of late South African former president, Nelson Mandela, and ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela Mandela – revealed in August last year that she has been diagnosed with cancer in her lungs, liver, ribs, spinal cord and hips. She was previously diagnosed with and beat breast cancer twice.

In April, the mom-of-six revealed that she was at her stage in her life where she is planning for her last days on earth and beyond.Speaking to Phemelo Motene on Kaya FM‘s Point of View, Zoleka shared how she is preparing for her death.

“It will probably sound strange but, I think I am blessed or fortunate enough to be in a position where I am in my planning stages. I am having conversations with my loved ones, lawyer, therapist and siblings to discuss what happens on the day and after I pass away.

“I’m learning to be OK with my eventuality. I’m learning to live despite an expected death. I’m also just continuously evaluating many facets of my life. I think that’s empowering for me. I’m put in a place where I actually have a say, especially with regard to my children.”

Jackie Phamotse guilty of defaming Basetsana and Romeo Kumalo

Jackie Phamotse has been found guilty in a high-profile defamation case brought against her by celebrity couple Basetsana Kumalo and her husband, businessman Romeo Kumalo. Phamotse, a renowned author and motivational speaker, appeared in the Randburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

The court’s judgment, delivered after a legal battle spanning five years, upheld the state’s case against Phamotse, stating that it had been proven beyond reasonable doubt. Having regard to the totality of the evidence, the court is satisfied that the state has proved its case against Ms Phamotse on all four counts beyond reasonable doubt.

“Ms Phamotse’s version as enumerated in the reasons for judgment above is not reasonably possibly true and is rejected as false beyond reasonable doubt,” said the magistrate.Phamotse faced two charges of crimen injuria, one count of criminal defamation, and one count of contempt of court. The legal saga originated from a controversial tweet posted by Phamotse in 2018. In the tweet, Phamotse made allegations insinuating the existence of a compromising video involving the Kumalos and another male

Her husband Romeo, though reserved in his interactions with the media, could not hide his joy. He was visibly elated as his wife held his face and embraced him.

For the Kumalos, the verdict represents an end of a long and arduous journey. Basetsana, speaking to the media after the proceedings, expressed relief and happiness.

She emphasised that the judgment has significance not only for her family but for all hardworking individuals who, at times, find themselves unfairly shamed.

She stated: “This judgment is for all of us, it’s for my children who had to live in shame over the last five years and for my parents.”

Phindi Mjonondwana, speaking on behalf of the National Prosecuting Authority, hailed the ruling as groundbreaking.

“It will go a long way in assisting the prosecution in doing its work, especially against cyberbullying,” Mjonondwana said.

“The judgment will serve to educate society as a whole, that though we have social media platforms, they must be used responsibly [and] with respect for other people’s rights.” The case has been set down for October 24 for pre-sentencing and the consideration of the reports.
