Sifiso Myeni: Where is the ex-Orlando Pirates and Wits winger now?

Soweto-born and Ennerdale-raise soccer star Sifiso Myeni was a marvel to watch during his heydays at Orlando Pirates and defunct football club Bidvest Wits.

SIFISO MYENI’S GLORY DAYS AT ORLANDO PIRATES AND WITS
The winger, who is now 35 years old, made his debut for The Clever Boys in 2008, playing close to 100 matches and scoring 14 goals.

Although a man of a few words, Myeni’s actions on and off the field earned him the captain’s armband under coach Roger de Sa.

After an impressive three seasons, the soccer star had caught the attention of the scouts at Pirates who pouched him from Wits in 2012. This is where Myeni became a household name, and finally tasted cup glory with the Nedbank Cup in 2014.

Myeni also scored one of the most memorable goals of his career, a thunderbolt strike against Free State Stars in 2012/2013 season.

His wonder goal had fans reminiscing in 2020 when former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema scored a similar one against Valencia.

After 96 appearances and 15 goals for the Buccaneers, Myeni went back to Wits in 2016. It was the same season that The Clever Boys would win the Premier Soccer League (PSL) trophy. However, after the first season, the club loaned him to SuperSport United where he played 10 matches before Wits recalled him.

Myeni was unfortunately clubless in 2019 before his short spell with GladAfrica side TS Sporting in 2020.

WHERE IS SIFISO MYENI NOW?
Myeni has not retired from football. In fact, he is plying his trade in the Botswana football league where he plays for a team called VTM.

The former Orlando Pirates midfielder joined VTM at the beginning of the 2022 season. When he joined, the goal was to help the side to gain promotion which they did.

After joining the Botswana side, Myeni was rumoured to be down and out. However, he dispelled those rumours.

“The money was never a factor in my move to Botswana. I have been okay financially since my last contract at TS Sporting. I have always had a financial adviser since my early days as a professional footballer at Bidvest Wits. I didn’t care about how much I was going to get here because I love football. I am here because I love this game,” Myeni told SowetanLIVE.

Myeni also owns a football club, Myeni 11, which he established whilst playing in the PSL. The team, which plays in the SAB League, was established to be a stepping stone for young and aspiring footballers – he told Shoot Online in 2021.
