RIP : Richard Roundtree: Shaft actor dies at 81

Richard Roundtree, a US actor best known for his starring role in the Shaft film franchise, has died aged 81.

He died at home in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon with his family by his side, his manager Patrick McMinn told The Hollywood Reporter.

 

 

 
His death comes after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

“Richard’s work and career served as a turning point for African American leading men in film,” McMinn said in a statement.

“The impact he had on the industry cannot be overstated,” he added.

Born on 9 July, 1942 in New Rochelle, New York, Roundtree began his acting career in the early 1960s.

He was seen as a ground-breaking actor with his portrayal of detective John Shaft, which made him a star at the age of 29.The 1970s movie franchise was iconic as it was among the first of what came to be known as Blaxploitation films, a genre featuring action movies that centred on heroic black characters.

Roundtree also appeared in a number of movies and TV series, which include the films Inchon and Seven as well as the television series Roots, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Desperate Housewives.

Samuel L Jackson, who appeared in the 2000 Shaft reboot as well as an 2019 instalment of the franchise with Roundtree, described the late actor as “the prototype, the best to ever do it”.

“His passing leaves a deep hole not only in my heart, but I’m sure a lotta y’all’s, too,” Jackson wrote on Instagram.

“Love you Brother, I see you walking down the Middle Street in Heaven & Isaac’s Conducting your song,” he added, referring to Shaft’s famous theme song which won an Oscar for best original music.

Roundtree was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 and underwent a double mastectomy.

He is survived by four daughters – Kelli, Nicole, Taylor, Morgan – his son John, and at least one grandchild, according to the New York Times

RIP: SAD : Thobela FM kids presenter JJ Menu has died

The Thobela FM kids show presenter died on Monday in hospital following an illness.

JJ Menu who hails from Mokopane in Limpopo has been with the station since 2007 where she has presented many shows. Some of these include: Thoba Matswalo, and Re mmogo.


 

 

 

 

Her most popular show was a Sunday Show called Lesang bana , she also produced the programme Moremogolo.Limpopo combo business manager Madikana Matjila says: “We all are hurt by JJ’s passing and wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family and all our listeners. We hurt also that millions of children and families have lost a servant, as JJ delivered with passion our children’s religions programming, as well as our all-time favourite Moremogolo where she served as a producer. We wish to lastly thank all our listeners for sending us their messages of support in this difficult time.”

MaMkhize found guilty, told to pay R37 million

SARS DEMAND R37 MILLION FROM MAMKHIZE
According to the report, MaMkhize has accumulated a massive amount of unpaid taxes.


 

 

 

 

 

 

Appearing before the stand on 16 October, MaMkhize was found guilty and ordered by the High Court of South Africa to pay R37, 915, 549.77.

“The Execution Creditor / Plaintiff [SARS] obtained judgment on 16 October 2023 against the Execution / Defendant [Royal AM] for:

“1. The payment of the sum of R37, 915, 549.77 [Thirty-seven million nine hundred and fifteen thousand five hundred and forty-nine rand and seventy-seven cents].

“2. Interest on the sum claimed in paragraph 1 at the applicable rate per annum from 1 November 2023 to date of payment, the said rate[s] of interest and date from which such interest is payable having been determined by the Execution Creditor / Plaintiff [SARS],” the report concludes, as shared by FARPost.

FIFA TRANSFER BAN
Additionally, MaMkhize’s club, Royal AM, are also facing an outstanding R12 million payment to their former player Samir Nurkovic.

The club was found guilty by FIFA for failing to pay Nurkovic over a 24-month period when he was injured. The punishment also included a transfer ban of two seasons wherein the club won’t be allowed to sign any players.

‘Happily married’: DJ Zinhle gushes over Murdah Bongz

South African DJ Ntombezinhle Jiyane, popularly known as DJ Zinhle took to Instagram on Monday 23 October to gush over her husband – musician Bongani Mohosana, popularly known as Murdah Bongz.

Umlilo hitmaker DJ Zinhle said she is “happily married” as she shared photos with her husband and father of her second child Murdah Bongz.

“Happily married 🖤,” she wrote.

DJ Zinhle welcomed her first child, Kairo Forbes with slain rapper AKA in 2015. AKA was shot dead on Friday 10 February while standing outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, Durban.

AKA and DJ Zinhle reportedly got back together in 2018 but broke up again in 2019. The rapper then began dating Anele “Nelli” Tembe, who tragically passed away on 11 April 2021, just two weeks after the rapper paid lobola for her. Nelli plunged to her death from the tenth floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. The rapper later moved on with rapper Nadia Nakai.

DJ Zinhle then began dating musician Murdah Bongz in 2020. Zinhle welcomed her second child Asante Mohonsana with Murdah Bongz in August 2021.

This comes after Murdah Bongz shared a video revealing he was ready to spoil DJ Zinhle and AKA’s mom Lynn Forbes. He told Lynn that the bill is on him.

Lynn then joked that since the bill is on Murdah she will be ordering all types of meats.

“The bill is on you? Then I’m ordering crocodile, warthog, fish whatever, she joked.

“Anything, the bill is on me so year,” he lovingly replied.

Murdah then shared the video with a sweet caption letting DJ Zinhle and Lynn know they deserve some time away.

“Go have fun my love. Enjoy all the hard work you do everyday, you & @lynnforbesza deserve this time away. Me, I’m just here making sure our empire is proper proper. ❤️❤️❤️,” he wrote.
