RIP: ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry found dead

First responders found Perry unconscious in a hot tub at his house and were unable to revive him, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times.

“We responded at 4:10 pm… It is a death investigation for a male in his 50s,” a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told AFP, without confirming the deceased’s name.

A fire department spokesman confirmed it had responded to a “water emergency,” which could refer to a “pool, spa, bathtub or fountain,” but could not confirm reports that Perry had drowned.

Perry was best known for his portrayal of the wise-cracking Chandler Bing on the wildly popular “Friends,” which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004.

“Friends” followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adult life, dating and careers. It was a mainstay of NBC’s much-vaunted 1990s and early 2000s television line-up, and drew a massive global following.

During the height of his success, Perry battled for years with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and attended rehabilitation clinics on multiple occasions.

Perry experienced health problems including a burst colon in 2018 due to his drug usage, which required multiple surgeries and the use of a colostomy bag for months after.

In his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” published last year, Perry described going through detox dozens of times, and spending millions of dollars in repeated attempts to get sober.

Perry dedicated the book to “all of the sufferers out there,” and wrote in the prologue: “I should be dead.”

He wrote: “People would be surprised to know that I have mostly been sober since 2001. Save for about sixty or seventy little mishaps over the years.”

TMZ, which first reported the news Saturday, said that no drugs were found at the scene. The celebrity news outlet said Perry was found by his assistant, who called 911.

The LA Times and TMZ both said there were no signs of foul play, citing anonymous sources.

Reactions poured in from the Hollywood community on social media as news of Perry’s death spread.

“Oh no!!! Matthew Perry!! You sweet, troubled soul!!” wrote Mira Sorvino, who starred with Perry in the 1994 television movie “Parallel Lives.”

“May you find peace and happiness in Heaven, making everyone laugh with your singular wit!!!”

Josh Charles, who appeared with Perry on “The Good Wife,” wrote: “Awful news. RIP brother.”

Warner Bros. TV, which produced “Friends,” wrote: “We are devastated to learn of Matthew Perry’s passing. He was a true gift to us all.

“Our heart goes out to his family, loved ones and all of his fans.”

‘FRIENDS’
Perry was born in Massachusetts in 1969, and was raised between Montreal and Los Angeles after his parents separated.

His mother was a Canadian journalist who served as press secretary to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. His father was a US actor.

As a young teenager, Perry was a nationally ranked tennis star in Canada before moving permanently to California and pursuing acting.

In the 1980s, Perry had guest roles in popular shows such as “Charles in Charge” and “Growing Pains.”

He was the final, and youngest, lead actor to be cast for “Friends.”

Perry’s character — the group’s most sarcastic and quick-witted, but occasionally awkward and insecure, member — quickly became a fan favorite.

Perry and his co-stars — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — negotiated $1 million each, per episode, by the end of their colossally popular and zeitgeist-setting 236-episode run.

In a sign of the show’s enduring appeal, the gang reportedly pocketed $2.5 million each for a reunion episode in 2021.

During that episode, Perry’s slurred speech prompted concern among fans.

Perry also surprised his costars by admitting to having suffered severe anxiety “every night” during the filming the sitcom.

As well as “Friends,” Perry appeared in movies such as “Fools Rush In” and “The Whole Nine Yards.”

He was nominated for five Emmys, including two for guest appearances on “The West Wing,” but never won the prestigious television award.

Perry never married.

‘I was saved by the church’ – Former Chiefs star

The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker – Junior Khanye – knows all about the reckless lifestyle of a professional footballer in this country.

JUNIOR KHANYE AT KAIZER CHIEFS
After famously replacing the ill-disciplined Jabu Pule in the Chiefs team, the 17-year-old Khanye soon followed the same path of alcohol destruction and disorder.

Speaking on the SittingWithStan show in recent days, Khanye revealed how the drink led him to 15 car accidents during his peak fame at Amakhosi.

“I was saved by the church, I won’t lie” Khanye said.

“I went into church after 15 car accidents. Nine with the same car.

“I’m not ashamed to say that. The last one turned over. I had an injury for one year and three months. I think it was 2012. I was driven with a friend heavily drunk and blacked-out,” the Daveyton-born star added.

Moment Siya sprinted to embrace Cheslin Kolbe melts hearts

Emotions ran high on Saturday evening as New Zealand faced South Africa in France for the World Cup Final. Springbok fans across the country watched with bated breath to see whether or not the team would secure the cup for the fourth time. When they emerged from the game victorious with a 12-11 score, many celebrated well into the night.

Fans are also choosing their favourite moments from the game — one of them being captain Siya Kolisi rushing to embrace an emotional Cheslin Kolbe who was sent off the field just minutes before. The Springboks showed up in top form to face the All Blacks in Saturday nights RWC final.

While the New Zealanders put up a good fight, they eventually lost the cup to the Springboks who are now four time cup holders. Before the final bell rang on the match, Cheslin Kolbe was issued a yellow card and sent off the field — something he was visibly upset about.

As the last few minutes of the match ticked away, he sat with his jersey over his face seemingly unable to watch what happens next.

This is why a video of Siya Kolisi running to embrace him after the team’s win has left so many people feeling teary-eyed.

Take a look at the video below:In the comment section SA rugby fans who are still freshly celebrating the victory, shared their thoughts on the sweet moment.

“Chelsin Kolbe is a fighter, i think he felt like he let us down there for a minute. We are unreservedly proud of him, our champion,” one person said while another added:

“There’s certain things you can’t fake as a person, and one thing that’s been consistent with Siya, is that he cares man. He shows he cares.”

Played your hearts out’: Prince Kaybee’s touching message to All Blacks

From the start of the World Cup, South African musician Prince Kaybee — real name Kabelo Motsamai — made it clear that he was not backing the Springboks but rather New Zealand’s All Blacks. Like the millions of other All Black fans who watched the springboks snatch the World Cup with just one point, he has headed online to share some words of encouragement with the team.

As expected, his fellow South Africans have blasted him for having no loyalty to the country by supporting the opposition. While the majority of South Africa is currently hungover from last night’s celebrations of the Springboks World Cup victory, not everyone is happy.

All Black fans are left to take in the fact that the cup is once again in the Springboks hands.

One of the people who have expressed their disappointment at this is Fetch Your Life hitmaker Prince Kaybee who headed to X to send a message to his favourite team.Prince Kaybee is saddened by the All Black’s loss. Images via Instagram: @princekaybee_sa
“An amazing game indeed. You boys played your hearts out but unfortunately kick rugby won. Congratulations to the Springboks,” he wrote.

In the comment section, locals didn’t spare any kind words for Kaybee who they think should be backing the Springboks.

“You should move to New Zealand. Re lapile kwena,” one person harshly commented while another added:

“This will end in tears for you! Unfortunately you keep choosing this hostile path for yourself.”

“What’s your valid reason for this Kabelo?.. It doesn’t matter WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS,” a third wrote.
