Uzalo fires Menzi Biyela (Sambulo Gwala) and Nompilo Maphumulo (Nosipho)Actors Menzi Biyela and Nompilo Maphumulo, who play engaged couple Nosipho Xulu and Pastor Sambulo Gwala in Uzalo, are said to have been fired.

According to sources from the SABC1 soapie Uzalo, fan-favorite couple Pastor Gwala and Nosipho Xulu, played by actors Nompilo Maphumulo and Menzi Biyela, have been fired.

“The situation is tense as some actors don’t know whether their contracts will be renewed or not, but Nosipho and Pastor Gwala are leaving. The were told their contracts will not be renewed.”

Another source close to the production revealed that the actors in the SABC1 soapie were worried.

“Nompilo is talented. She’s been with Uzalo since season one and delivered the best. When colleagues heard she was leaving, everyone was shocked. Menzi is experienced and talented. His contract not being renewed was scary for others.”

At the time of publication, Nompilo Maphumulo had not responded to The South African, while Biyela referred Daily Sun to Stained Glass TV production for comment.
