Actress Natasha Thahane under fire over her reaction to Mpho Sebeng’s death

Wwell-known South African actress Natasha Thahane has been labeled “dramatic” following her reaction to the news of Mpho Sebeng’s death.


 

 

 

 

 
Sebeng, who was a child star and thespian, tragically died in a car accident in Potchefstroom, North West, in the early hours of Sunday, 5 May.As tributes continue to pour in from the actor’s colleagues, Thahane – who shared the screen with Sebeng on Saints and Sinners – posted a screenshot of her phone log to indicate she is in disbelief and she’s been trying to get ahold of him since the tragic news.The Blood & Water actress captioned the image on her Instagram: “Answer your phone dude!!! Noooo ways!”Although she later deleted it, screenshot of her post have been widely shared on X as netizens slam her for being “dramatic”. Others gave likened her to Idols SA judge Somizi, who shared a screenshot of his “conversation” with the late Mbongeni Ngema hours after the news of his passing in December last year.According to OS Management, Sebeng was only 31 years old.

He had been in the acting industry for almost 20 years, with his first television debut on Justice For All as well as Zero Tolerance, which later went to win multiple awards.

He further got roles on Bay of Plenty, eTV’s Scandal and The Throne. While in high school, he received his most prominent role on Winnie (the story about the life of the late Winnie Mandela) where he played Tsietsi and got to meet box office actors Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard.Ring of lies was the late actor’s first major lead role on prime time television. His performance earned him a nomination at the 2018 South African Film & Television awards for “Best Male Actor” in a telenovela. Sebeng has also had acting roles on Netflix shows Savage Beauty and Miseducation.

In a statement shared on social media, the Collision star’s family has requested for some space it it deals with the heartbreaking news.

“The family of the South Africa entertainer, Mpho Sebeng are saddened to confirm, to the public and media that their son has indeed passed away.

“Mpho met his untimely death in the early hours of Sunday, 05 May 2024 due to a tragic car accident in Potchefstroom.

“Whilst the family appreciates the immense outpouring of love and condolences, the family requests some space to process the news,” read the statement.

The Sebeng family further said that details of the much-loved actor’s memorial and funeral services will be communicated in due course.

“We request that you continue to hold the Sebeng family in prayer. Take care of yourselves and take care of each other.”
