Singer Zandile “Zandie” Khumalo has responded angrily to calls she, too, should be dropped from gigs.
This comes after her sister and fellow musician, Kelly Khumalo, was removed from two event line-ups this week following complaints from patrons in light of the startling testimonies heard at the North Gauteng High Court in the rebooted Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. In a lengthy Instagram post on Thursday, Zandie made it clear she is not bothered by cancel culture. The Ikhwela singer shared two Twitter posts calling for her and her big sister’s cancellation from the entertainment industry.
Zandie started by saying that she thought it was only her sister who was being attacked, but now that she is also being mentioned, she wants all the “social media idiots” to get it into their heads that she does not care about being cancelled.
“I decided to do music ’cause I have a passion for it and I could [do it] and If I want I can stop doing it tomorrow ngaphandle kwe [without] stress and akuna shlama nje ozo canceller mina kuzwele vele [no piece of sh*t is going to hurt me by cancelling me].”
The mother and wife said she knows for a fact that those calling for them to get cancelled have never supported them.
“I love music and I could even do it for free if I want angeke ngimkhulumele u [I won’t speak for] Kelly but yabona mina hhay bandla u can do your worst akudikizi ngqulu kimi ANGINANDABA [I’m not moved, I don’t care] shame,”she wrote.
Zandie furthered added that she belongs to God and he will decide.
Both Zandie and Kelly were present the fateful night former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was gunned down on 26 October 2014. Kelly was Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time. The harrowing incident took place at their mother’s house in Vosloorus, Gauteng, and according to them and the other four adults in the house that night, it was a botched robbery.
However, almost nine years after the shooting, the Meyiwa family and the rest of the country are still looking for answers.ZANDIE’S TESTIMONY DURING THE SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL
Zandie, who was the State’s first witness two weeks ago, told the court that three shots were fired the night Meyiwa was killed. One while there was a scuffle where she and the other witnesses were fighting the armed intruders, and two others after she ran off to hide in the bathroom.
She further testified that she sat behind the driver’s seat, and Meyiwa’s friends Mthokozisi and Tumelo – who also witnessed the shooting – were in the car when Kelly was driving the soccer star to Botshelong Hospital.
According to Zandie, when they got to the hospital she rushed to the emergency
Their neighborhood, Nthabiseng Mokete, however gave a different version, saying Meyiwa was already dead when they put him in Kelly’s car.
Mokete also disputed Zandie’s version that MaPhiri was the first person she asked for help. According to Mokete, who is MaPhiri’s sister, she saw a frantic Zandie running in the street and raced with her to MaPhiri as the musician could not recall the police number.
Last week, the State’s fourth witness, Colonel Lambertus Steyn – who is a data analyst and investigation officer at the South African Police Services (SAPS) Cold Case Unit – testified that Meyiwa’s phone was at the hospital after the incident.
This is contrary to Zandie’s testimony wherein she told the court that the late footballer’s phone was on the floor in her mother’s house when they arrived from the hospital.
