DJ Sbu in hot soup, owes R15 million. South African media personality and award-winning musician DJ Sbu, also known as Sbusiso Arthur Leope, is facing a hefty R15 million tax bill from the South African Revenue Service (SARS). According to recent reports, SARS obtained a default judgment against Leope at the Johannesburg High Court last week after he failed to pay a debt of just under R5 million for personal income tax.

 

This debt reportedly grew to over R14 million with the addition of more than R4.4 million in additional tax and R4.7 million in interest after several defaults.

This is not the first time that Leope has faced tax issues with SARS. In 2018, SARS obtained a default judgment against him for failing to settle over R2.2 million in tax. Leope, who co-owns iconic record label TS Records with businessman-turned-politician Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza, has not yet responded to these latest claims.Attempts to reach out to Leope for comment were unsuccessful as he ignored phone calls and did not respond to text messages. This news comes just a few months after music duo Major League DJz were hit with a R9 million tax bill, and Gang of Instrumentals lead singer Tumi Masemola received a R1.4 million tax bill.
