Gugu was devastated when Phumlani left her in the village, so he moved to Gomora to be with Thati.

Phumlani and Thati chose to stay with Gugu in order to make amends by showing her love and treating her as if she were their own daughter. However, Phumlani died, and Gugu relocated to MaSonto’s house, where she is still remaining despite MaChonco, her grandmother’s, attempts to transfer her to the Eastern Cape.
