The Story of Mokone
You remember the story of Mokone, nyaope addict,… The man we took from the streets? I say WE because you are bunch of amazing friends. All these helps that we give to people are done by you. All I do I just post.
But Mokone Journey to Recovery is one of my proudest projects. It was not easy to welcome someone you don’t know and dirty in your small space. This is the man who man who had 6 months without touching water… That’s what he said.
I got a call from a friend Odeep Ma’o because he saw that I posted his video that am looking for him. Mokone was in Joburg Park station. Mokone got my number and he called me through some lady who was a street vendor at the Park Station.
That lady even gave him transport money for him to come to my place in Pta. When he arrived in Pta around 8pm he called me to come pick him up around Pta Central. Now I have to go and fetch someone I never met. Am not even sure where he is.
Luckily I found him. We went to my place. I did 5 things which people are not doing to our nyaope boys.
1. I gave him freedom
2. I gave him love
3. I didn’t judge him
4. I didn’t want him to explain what happened.
5. I saw myself in him
I changed how he saw everything. When he saw failure I showed him to show a man who just lost round 1 in boxing match. There are still other 11 rounds. Swallows yesterday fought until the last second. The scored in the last mini seconds. Treat life like a soccer match. Losing first half doesn’t mean you lost the already. You still have 2nd half. Losing or drawing in match does not mean you lost the league.
Before I could even find him, Dj Sbu found him but he refused… He said am waiting for Kwenisto ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜…
Mokone stayed with me. Not easy. I spent two nights in a row without sleeping because he was cracking, crying and begging me to kill him rather. I opened the door and told him to leave. He looked at me and cried. He left and later came back. I didn’t care wether he would come back or not.
Mokone went to rehab but didn’t stay long and went back to his home in Mokopane. Am yet to meet his family but I spoke a lot with his mom. In the words of his mom
She told me she was just waiting for the day she will receive news to come fetch his dead body. She never imagined him to come back alive. You can imagine.
As we speak, Mokone is about to launch Refetotswe Drug addicts Centre and a Youth and Art Group in his area. He is back at church.
He got help now he is helping others. This should be our chain. I get help, I help the next one and the next one helps the next one. This is how we can make the changes in our.
Thank you friends for being part of this journey. You inspire me. Your message and your warm wishes keep us doing more. You don’t know how much role you are playing in my little projects.
I value you!!! That’s why am staying here with you guys to rehabilitate more of our boys. Mokone Wantshi Dikgolo”
