Minnie Dlamini’s tribute to veteran news anchor Mam Noxolo Grootboom did not receive the reaction she had hoped for. What was meant to be a celebration of her life turned out to be a mock fest for the television presenter and she is livid.Speaking to TshisaLive following yesterdays ‘Roast of Minnie Dlamini’, she said Twitter has become a very toxic space and hopes it could all end. Noxolo Grootboom had the likes of Pearl Thusi and many others to tears. Some even shared their own stories about the veteran news anchor saying her retirement after 37 years of service, is one for the books.

Minnie gave her own tribute but received backlash for it. She said when she was 4 years old, she would get excited to see Noxolo on the news. When she saw her, she would scream her name all around the house. This caused her to get called a liar and attention seeker.After getting dragged for almost the whole day, Minnie deleted her tweet and replaced it with “Noxolo Grootboom! That’s all, that’s the tweet.”

Speaking to the publication, Minnie slammed trolls saying they should have focused on paying respects tot the news anchor instead of ridiculing her, “It’s honestly ridiculous how vile and toxic people on Twitter have become. Instead of celebrating the legend that is uMam Noxolo Grootboom by sharing fond memories of her incredible career and the impact she’s had on all of us being in our homes every evening for 37 years, I get accused of lying and trend for no reason?

“It’s not right and this mob mentality and bullying has to stop. I refuse to believe this behaviour is a true reflection of our society as a whole,” she told the publication.

Pearl Thusi too got trolled on Twitter when she shared pictures that show her kneeling down and hugging Noxolo Groootboom. Tweeps were not impressed with her pose as she quickly joined the top trending topics on Twitter. she was put on blast many saying she is just acting up.

Some even said her acting was better than her entire acting career. In another video, Pearl was seen crying her lungs out after Noxolo’s final news bulletin. She said, “Yoh guys I’m punished, just watched Noxolo Grootboom’s farewell, iyoh I feel like my childhood is been stolen oh my God and to just watch someone being so graceful and so honest after all the inspiration she’s given us.

“Yoh what a queen man, I wish I was home to watch her but like thank you so much for everything and your kindness and your humanity. Wow, Noxolo Grootboom forever. ”
