Witness Senzo Meyiwa trial

The trial of Senzo Meyiwa’s murder was postponed again on Monday, 15 May, because the State witness who was supposed to testify asked that her voice and face be not broadcasted live. She was among those who witnessed the former Bafana Bafana captain being shot at her house in Vosloorus, Gauteng, on 26 October 2014.

The State’s lawyers told the media in court on Monday that the witness, who is a public figure, does not want her testimony to be aired because she is afraid of being mocked.

The witness has no problem with journalists being in court and writing about her testimony, State Prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi said. She said she will face criticism and ridicule on social media and this will disturb her and stop her from testifying further.

“The witness is worried about her safety. She has to perform in public from time to time. Her life might be in danger,” he said.

The Ngiyak’thanda singer posted on Instagram to her more than 330 000 followers asking about the weather in Pietermaritzburg and Ladysmith where she was going to perform. She also asked about the weather in Pretoria.

“And how is the weather in Pretoria on Monday? It will be warm even if it’s chilly there in Pretoria. We are not worried because we are happy to know him while we are here (in this world),” she wrote.

On Wednesday, 16 November Zandie took to Instagram to share a dream she had about testifying in court.

“After work, I had a late afternoon nap and had a dream where we as a family had decided that we don’t want any media present in court when we testify; not even our voices should be heard.
