South Africans were shocked to learn the gruesome murder of the slain DJ Sumbody (38), real name, Oupa Sefoka originally from Limpopo Province, ga-Masemola to be specific. DJ Sumbody was laid to rest on Saturday, 26th Novemeber 2022. According to his friend and business partner, Tshepi Ranamane, the slain amapiano artist, club owner knew and feared for his life after several shootings occurred around him. According to the South African, this is what Tshepi Ranamane had to say:

“In September thereabout we collaborated to do the flavour market at the Loftus Stadium and after the event someone got fatally shot. Two days after that somebody got killed at Sunnyside just outside DJ Sumbody’s other club Top Notch. Three days after that in Mabopane someone else got shot dead.”

After these incidents, it is reported that the slain DJ isolated himself and held business meetings at his house rather than at their usual office area. One thing that slipped into some our minds is that, why didn’t the slain DJ beef-up his security the moment he feared for him life? The slain DJ wore expensive clothing brands from Louis Vitton, Burberry, Gucci, just to name a few, and drove luxury vehicles from BMW M4, Porsche, Golf 8 but he never thought of securing his vehicles with bullet-resistant material.

In South Africa it is legal to drive and own a bullet-resistant vehicle and this is something the slain DJ could have done to increase security apart from his slain bodyguard. In South Africa, to add bullet proof extras to a vehicle costs anything between R 200 000 to R 480 000 for windows, doors, back seats, depending on the service provider. Moreover, the cost will also depend on the level of protection according to the ammunition type. Why didn’t the slain DJ install these bullet-resistant extras when he saw that his life was in real danger? In addition to his wealth, he owned several taxi making him a taxi boss. Why didn’t he take it serious that his life was in real danger? We can ask all questions however it is too late now that his is gone together with his bodyguard. May their souls rest in peace.
