The “King of Amapiano,” a type of house music that combines airy synth pads, light piano melodies, and low-tempo beats with elements of jazz, lounge, and deep house, is DJ and record producer Kabelo Motha, better known by his stage as Kabza De Small. The producer DJ Maphorisa and he collaborated on the diamond-selling 2019 LP Scorpion Kings, which is credited with being a key factor in the genre’s growth.

 

 

 

Motha began his DJ career in 2009, fusing electronic dance music (EDM) with Afrobeat-infused house. He was born in Mpumalanga and raised in Pretoria, where he still resides.

He released his highly regarded debut album, Avenue Sounds, via House Afrika Records in 2016 before finding greater success two years later with the singles “Amabele Shaya” and “Umshove,” which featured guest vocals from Leehleza, a contemporary of the amapiano genre. He moved away from EDM and toward the amapiano genre that he helped to pioneer. Early in 2019, “Bamba La,” another Leehleza collaboration, debuted, followed by the number-one DJ Maphorisa collaboration Scorpion Kings.

Kabelo was recently posted after he visited a barbershop to get his hair done, but people couldn’t help but notice that his eyes are teary and looks like his drunk or high. While others claim it’s probably exhaustion.
