I am not God.
Those are the words of a Namibian widow who lost her husband during a farm attack in Otjimbingwe.
Her husband was killed by a farm worker who had been hired just three weeks earlier.
The widow has chosen to forgive the worker saying the judiciary system will take care of the rest.
“I am not God to deal out sentences for crimes committed. Let the court that is trained for it sentence him equal to the crimes he committed,” she said.
The woman, who may not be named to protect her identity, as she is also a victim of the same person, testified in aggravation of the sentence of Kazana Nicolaus Hausiku.
Hausiku, who is aged 31, killed his 59-year-old employer by hacking him to death after a confrontation.
He also threatened the wife of the farmer with a panga and raped her inside the farmhouse, whereafter he ransacked the farmhouse and loaded the stolen items onto a pick-up of the victim, and forced the wife to accompany him.
Unfortunately as he released driving away, the car overturned.
She said she and her children are still traumatized by the incident and it will take a lifetime to forget what had happened.
