In the recent months, the South African entertainment industry has been saddened by the loss of lives of young entertainers who have been working in the industry and are still pursuing their passions and wanting to make a name for themselves by being the best at their craft. The number of deaths that have been taking place and messages of condolences and “rest in peace” have really left people to believe that there might be a dark cloud lingering in the entertainment industry, and what is even more sad about the whole situation is that the people who are losing their lives are still very young, and now parents are burying their children instead of it being the other way around.
And some of these young celebrities who have lost their lives in the recent months have been celebrities who many young people look up to and are inspired by because of the kind of work that they were doing, and who left a positive impact. One of them was television and radio presenter Pearl Shongwe, who was popularly known for being on the television show known as Daily Thetha, which focused on discussing societal issues.
The death of Pearl Shongwe is one that left 20 people broken, confused, and with a lot of questions because she did not seem like a person who was dealing with any sort of illness or issue, and she was found dead in her apartment with no clear reason as to what might have caused her death.
But investigations are still ongoing to answer the questions of many people surrounding her death, and it is suspected that Pearl Shongwe might have died from a drug overdose after the police found drugs in her apartment. Results from the toxicologist to determine her death are still awaited; foul play was initially suspected when her lifeless body was found in her apartment last year.
