Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, a well-known physician, has filed an emergency petition to have her “arrest and abduction” declared invalid.
Magudumana claims in court documents that she wants the court to rule that her “wrongful and unlawful” arrest in Tanzania, “wrongful and unlawful” transfer to South Africa, and “wrongful and unlawful” incarceration in South Africa are all results of her “wrongful and unlawful” arrest in Tanzania. Dated as of May 19th, this application.
After being detained in Tanzania on April 7, Magudumana and her partner, convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester, along with an accused Mozambican accomplice, were extradited to South Africa on April 13.
Magudumana is requesting an immediate release from the court. In May of 2022, Bester allegedly faked his own death and escaped from the G4S-run Mangaung Correctional Centre.
The body of Katlego Bereng, age 30, was burned in Bester’s cell as part of the attempt to escape.
Magudumana’s father, Zolile Sekeleni, and five former G4S personnel are charged with helping Bester’s escape. They are accused of fraud, corruption, corpse violation, harboring a fugitive convict, and thwarting the purposes of justice, among other things. Magudumana stopped trying to get released on bond a week ago. Her case has been set for June 20th.
