Hlosiwe Mthalane known by her beloved fans as DJ Hlo could not imagine having to give up on her dreams as she started becoming a DJ and then a few months later Covid19 pandemic started. So when the country of South Africa was open once again, the bubbly young DJ started performing.

In a year’s time, she saw herself receive one of the biggest titles in the entertainment industry which is the Ukhozi FM the song of the year.

This Ukhozi FM title is very competitive and many artists desire to have the covetous title for themselves as it is very prestigious in nature. Listeners have to vote for their favourite sound and tune among a list of ten very entertaining songs that the country loves.

DJ Hlo’s song which is called Isibani took the number one spot because people loved it very much and voted for her to get the 2021 year-end title of song of the year.

Being a newcomer to the industry some South Africans had something to say about DJ Hlo’s victory on winning Ukhozi FM song of the year. They complained that they did not even know the song.

DJ Hlo spoke to Drum, sharing how the negative comments from South Africans had affected her.

“It didn’t make me happy but it is what is it. I am thankful to be surrounded by people who make me feel proud and make me feel like this is a big achievement and they are encouraging me to focus on the positive.”
