Formerly known for his lively presence in the nightlife scene, DJ Sgqemeza has undergone a significant transformation. The co-host of the Ukhozi FM breakfast show has embraced a new chapter in his life as a born-again Christian, and he couldn’t be prouder of his faith.

In an exclusive interview with ZiMoja, the artist, born Phumlani Mbatha, revealed that he has renounced his previous party lifestyle. Sgqemeza no longer indulges in alcohol and has distanced himself from the club scene and other social spaces. “I have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, and I am proud to share this with the world,” he expressed. While Sgqemeza has been attending church for the past 15 years, he recently made the decision to fully dedicate himself to Christ, leaving behind the worldly pleasures he once pursued.

 

 

 

Opening up about the challenges he faced in openly declaring his faith, Sgqemeza admitted that it was initially difficult to share his newfound devotion with his friends. However, he reached a point where he no longer cared about others’ opinions. The hardest part for him was declining club gigs as a DJ. Gradually, promoters realized that he was no longer interested in playing at clubs as he continued to turn down offers and make excuses. “After repeatedly declining gigs, promoters eventually caught on and understood that I am no longer interested in the club scene,” he added.

Sgqemeza acknowledged that his spiritual journey has led to changes in his personal relationships. While he has lost some friends along the way, those who support his path have remained by his side. Furthermore, he shared that he is now happily married to a God-fearing woman who fully supports his spiritual journey. “Since fully committing myself to God, significant changes have taken place in my life. My wife and I are both on the same journey, praying together and meditating on the word of God,” Sgqemeza revealed. While he is dedicated to serving the Lord, Sgqemeza stated that he does not currently have plans for priesthood.
