Media personality and businessman Maps Maponyane has landed himself in a heap of trouble. This after being nabbed by police for allegedly breaking the speed limit in Laingsburg, about 265km from Cape Town.
The 30-year-old model and co-owner of Buns Out Burgers, a popular eatery in Linden, Jozi, was slapped with a notice to appear before the court when the date is finalized.
According to a police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the incident happened during a roadblock operation on the N1-1 and the KM80 Road in May.The informant told the SunTeam police were manning a roadblock around 7 pm when the heartthrob got nabbed.
Said the informant: “This was one of our many operations during the national lockdown.
“He was charged with exceeding the speed limit of the road traffic sign.”The SunTeam couldn’t independently establish the exact speed Maps was travelling ahead of his arrest.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the matter, saying Maps was released on a notice to appear in court.Said Sergeant Rwexana: “The case of exceeding the speed limit was opened in Laingsburg.
“A 30-year-old man was arrested and given a notice to appear in court and released. I’ll indicate a court date once I have it.”
When the SunTeam contacted Maps for comment, he denied the allegation, and said: “Not that I know of, man.” Maps is the son of football legend, Marks Maponyane. He’s famous for being a fashion enthusiast and cover model for local magazines.
