TV: Phindile Gwala Is Coming Back To Imbewu

It’s safe to say – Phindile Gwala is finally booked and busy after taking some time of from the spotlight. We have reported her casting on a new Mzansi Magic drama series titled Uzulu Nomhlaba which premieres on the 30th of October. She will be taking on the role of Mandlovu on the Maskandi focused storyline series. “This character is ruthless and harsh” – this is how Phindile described her role. Entertainment Commentator Phil Mphela has reported that Phindile Gwala is making a come back to Etv’s Imbewu (The Seed). She will be continuing with her role as Fikile. “These two roles are different from each other and have presented an exciting challenge for me” – she said when interviewed by Drum. As always when assigned with a new role research forms part of the work. This includes how the character should walk, speak and their background – which can be challenging at times.

After taking a 11 month break of our screens and being equally affected by the pandemic, she feels like now is the time to hit the ground running. Here’s a breakdown of the things she talked about:

— Closing down their car wash and shisa nyama because of the pandemic. What made it difficult for them to recover is that the owner of the premises sold the plot and moved overseas.
