Idols SA is the biggest singing competition in South Africa right now, the popular talent search show has been around for 17 successful seasons, each year they find some of the best unsigned singers in the country.
Pre-Covid-19, a panel of judges would travel in four of the biggest cities in the country which are Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town to audition and find the best singers in the country.
The Tv show has changed the lives of many aspiring singers across the country, it has discovered and launched some of the best singer’s music careers.
Idols SA has produced some of the biggest musicians in the country, including Khaya Mthethwa, Musa Sukwene, Brendan Ledwaba, Shekinah, Loyiso, Amanda Black, Thami Shobede, Mmatema Moremi and Karabo Mogane just to name a few.
The judging panel consisted of Randall Abrahams, who had been a judge since the first season, Unathi Nkayi, who joined the judging panel in 2012 and Somizi Mhlongo who joined the show in 2015.
Randall Abrahams and Unathi have announced earlier this year that they wont be returning as judges in the new season, (Season 18), which meant that there would only be one judge left in the judging panel.
The people who are going to join Somizi on Idols SA judging panel have been revealed, they are singer and actress Thembi Seete and Rapper Thabo Bogopa, popularly known as Jr. The two will be the new judges alongside Somizi Mhlongo as of 2022.
The show is currently in its audition phase, through the online platforms because of Covid-19, it will probably premier season 18 in July this year.
Surely the former judges will be missed because many of us were very fond of them, but i think the show needs new judges to bring a fresh new perspective, and the two new judges will be just perfect.
