Makhadzi has made it in life, all the toiling, performing at taxi ranks and malls all day have finally yielded fruits. It did not happen overnight, it took years for her to be recognized nationwide. For a couple of years she was only famous in the villages of Venda and as time went by, she became Limpopo Queen of dance music and here she is an African queen.
Along the way she was taken advantage of, she came across some managers who exploited her when she thought they’d lift her up. She has went from one manager to the next hoping for the best and finally she is traveling countries, telling stories with her music.
It’s October and Makhadzi is enjoying a festival in Malawi. It’s her first time visiting Malawi and fans were happy to have her on stage. For her one hour performance, Makhadzi was paid 35 million of Malawian Kwacha (K35 million) which is R630k when converted to South African currency. Imagine getting that for your one hour performance.
