South Africans were left in absolute shock and disbelief after a news article that claimed that the mayor of Johannesburg, Thapelo Amad, is a Malawian national.

The article reported that Amad is from Katuli, in the district of Mangochi. However, Wikipedia reported that Amad was born in Soweto in present-day Gauteng. He has a degree in Islamic sciences and a NQF Level 4 qualification in entrepreneurship and a NQF Level 5 qualification in gender mainstreaming in the public service, which he obtained through the National School of Government.

Thapelo Amad was the talk of Twitter after @ThaboSchoeman posted a screenshot of the article. He left this caption on the tweet, “Eish Really?!”

@tsiekeoyatla left this comment on the tweet, “Truth or lies, South Africa is already ruled,captured & controlled by foreign nationals some are so called legal and are illegal. SA was up for grabs when ANC took over. The country is sold in bit and pieces, while other political party like EFF & DA want to rule & auctions it.”
