Mandisa Vilakazi, who has acted in shows including Uzalo, Imbewu and Durban Gen, says that in the three years she has been in the industry, she has encountered many obstacles, but despite that, she is not complaining because she knows why she got into it. “Although there have been problems, I have gained a lot from being in three major plays produced in KwaZulu-Natal, which is second to none,” said Mandisa who played the role of Liyana in Zalo. This lady is in the news these days as she is playing the lead role in the movie Valley Of A Thousand Hills, which is shown on Netflix.


 
This film won the overseas Cannes Award and was one of the films shown at the Durban International Film Festival last year. In this film, Mandisa plays the role of a woman who is in love with another woman. Explaining the scene that got her nominated at this year’s Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards, she says that of all the scenes she has acted in, this is the one that has given her the most difficulty. She said she had to be careful that she plays it in a dignified way, which will not step on the corners of people who are homosexuals, “The director of the show was watching over me all the time, to make sure that I focus on this area without letting my emotions get in the way,” said the lady.

Mandisa revealed that this industry is her life because she did not enter it because of fame, but entered it because she felt it from the inside and studied it.
