The body of Collins Chabane Mayor, Moses Maluleke was laid to rest

Malamulele, Limpopo’s mayor, Collins Chabane, was gunned down and buried in Shikundu. Moses Maluleke, 56, was the ANC deputy secretary for the Vhembe region and was affectionately referred to as “Big Moss” by his friends.

Two weeks ago, three masked intruders broke into his house and murdered him. Two people were arrested as possible murderers in his case. There has been no success in finding the third criminal. Maluleke’s family spokesperson Humphrey Mugagula blames the government’s lax security measures for his death.

A crocodile’s true strength may be found in the water, according to some. Here we have a kidnap victim who has been forced to seek safety in his own home after being abducted from outside. When he returned home, he discovered that no one was there to keep him safe. Mugagula says his family feels “undermined by the exact same administration which our brother was working for,” and that the government should review and improve its security procedures as a result.

Meanwhile, Limpopo ANC chairperson Stanley Mathabatha has confirmed the province’s support for party president Cyril Ramaphosa ahead of the African National Congress’ national elective conference in December.

At Maluleke’s funeral, Mathabatha was giving a eulogy. He insists that the province will still support Ramaphosa for a second term as ANC president despite its objection to the step aside resolution.

As a province, we might disagree with our President on the issue of withdrawal. I’m not claiming that there aren’t any points of contention; rather, I’m arguing that the existence of even minor points of contention does not in any way diminish our steadfast support for President Matamela Ramaphosa. We continue to back President Matamela Ramaphosa, and I will not be making any additional comments. Keep things as they are, Mathabatha says, and the government will continue to support the president as before.
