The birthday cake AKA did not live to see

Popular Hip Hop musician AKA was gunned down on Friday night outside a popular Durban restaurant.

His death sent shock waves throughout the world as he had planned a series of birthday celebrations.

One of Durban’s leading newspapers which is published by IOL – The Post – has exclusively revealed that the owner of YuGo night club had hired a cake specialist to bake a birthday cake for AKA.

AKA was set to perform at YuGo on the night he was shot. His birthday was on the 28th of February and the cake would have been a belated gift.

Vashnie Naidoo was hired to bake the cake which was going to be presented to the super star after his show at the night club.

Naidoo, of Reservoir Hills, owner of Cakes by Vee, said the manager of YuGo contacted her early in February to order the cake.

She said she believed the cake at 8pm and she was shocked when she heard that AKA had been shot dead at 10pm.

She divulged that she has baked cakes for a number of local celebrities over the years.

“I have made cakes for Shekinah, Nadia Nakai, DJ Tira, Sbahle Mpisane, Andile Mpisane, Zakes Bantwini, Minnie Dlamini and DJ Merlon. But this was the first time I had baked for AKA. Even though AKA’s birthday was over (January 28), the cake was ordered and it was meant to be a surprise,” she stated.

Even though she was hurt that AKA never got to see the cake, what hurt her the most was that AKA left behind a little girl Kairo.

The manager at YuGo nightclub confirmed that he had contacted Naidoo to ask her to bake the birthday cake.
