Real Housewives of Johannesburg producer, Sonia Mbele has revealed that she is suffering from a chronic autoimmune disease, which led to her being hospitalised for two weeks.

The actress and businesswoman shared in an interview with Zimoja that after feeling fatigued for weeks, she was recently diagnosed with chronic anemia and is currently on treatment for her iron deficiency.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a rare immune disorder that occurs when your body mistakes red blood cells as foreign substances and attacks them.

Treatments include medication, surgery, or in rare cases, a blood transfusion. The condition is manageable but can be fatal if left untreated.

Mbele who is a mother of 4 shared with the publication that initially she just thought her busy schedule was wearing her down.“At the time I thought I was just fatigued until my doctors performed additional tests which confirmed that I have anemia which has gone chronic.

Sometimes additional tests or treatments for iron deficiency are necessary, especially if your doctor suspects you’re bleeding internally.

You can usually correct deficiency anemia with iron supplements.

I had to change my diet and eating habits, quit alcohol, and now I have to go for drips to make sure I have enough iron.The 46-year only sharing with her family, but has opened up because she not want to let her chronic autoimmune disease get the better of her.

Mbele maintains that she is optimistic, although there is no cure for her condition and doesn’t plan on slowing down her ambitious business endeavours.

The Blood and Water actress currently does business in both producing and manufacturing in and outside of SA, this includes Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, the USA, UK and Dubai.
