Skeem Saam dethrones etvScandal and Generations The Legacy

According to the recent Television Audience Measurement (TAM) figures released by the Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa (BRCSA), Scandal! is ranked as the third most-watched soapie. Following closely behind is SABC1’s soapie, Generations: The Legacy, while Skeem Saam takes the second spot after Uzalo.

In May 2023, Uzalo garnered 5 million viewers, with Skeem Saam close behind at 4.7 million. Scandal! received 4.6 million viewership, while Generations: The Legacy secured 4.5 million viewership.


 

The May viewership data also indicates that e.tv’s House of Zwide attracted 3.7 million viewers, while the channel’s latest telenovela, Isitha: The Enemy, received 2 million viewership. Smoke and Mirrors followed with 1.8 million viewers, and Nikiwe garnered 1.7 million viewers.

SABC2’s long-running soapie, Muvhango, captured a viewership of 1.3 million, followed by SABC2’s Afrikaans soapie, 7de Laan, with 987k viewers. Mzansi Magic’s cancelled telenovela, Gomora, stands at 780k viewers.Recently, Generations: The Legacy and Morula Pictures bid farewell to Musa Ngema, a beloved actor who portrayed the character of Mazwi Moroka for nine years. In a statement, the show confirmed his departure, mentioning that his contract ended in March of this year. The statement expressed appreciation for Ngema’s talent, dedication, and contribution to the role.

In Scandal!, a popular character named Jojo (played by Melusi Mbele) attempted to kill his son’s kidnapper, Thabang, but ultimately released him when he realized the consequences that awaited him if he proceeded, potentially leading to his imprisonment.
