Senzo Meyiwa murder trial to resume on Monday

The trial of the five men accused of murdering Orlando Pirates soccer star Senzo Meyiwa is set to resume at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday, 12 June and State witness Zandie Khumalo is expected to take the stand and continue giving her testimony.


 

The trial was postponed in May and is expected to sit from 12 June to 15 June and be postponed again for a later date.

The defence is expected to start cross-examining Khumalo who had made an application for her testimony not to be broadcast live was declined.

Meyiwa was shot dead on 26 October 2014 at the home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng in an alleged botched robbery.Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala as well as Longwe Twala, singer Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo and her two children Christian and Thingo were present when the goal keeper was shot.

Five men are on trial for the murder of the soccer star, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli. They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. All five men pleaded not guilty.
