Dr Rebecca Malope, also known as the Queen of gospel music, has been blessing us with her beautiful voice for more than decades.

Her real names are Batsogile Lovederia Malope, she was born on the 30th of June in 1968.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She grew up in a small village called Lekazi in Mpumalanga. She was raised by her parents, together with her late sister, Cythia.

When Rebecca was growing up, she becane disabled and was confined in a wheelchair due to illness.

Doctors said she would not walk again, and because her family was poor, they could not afford to get a second opinion or get her help.However she beat the odds and could walk again.

At the age of 18 she had to accompany her sister to Johannerburg in a Township called Evaton. They had to travel for more that 400 kilometres, only to earn a small amount of money to feed their family.

Her music career started in 1986 when she became a contestant on a talent search for musicians called ‘Shell road to fame’. That year she did not win, but went back to try again the following year, and she won, as the best vocalist.

After her win, she signed up with a music producer, Sizwe Zakoas and a manager Peter Tladi, together they started working on her debut Pop album called ‘Sthembile Kuwe’.

Her album did not do well, and that is when she decided that Pop was not her Genre and that she wanted to sing Gospel.

She started releasing gospel songs and the songs did so well that she released an album Titled ‘Rebecca’.The album became a huge succcess, in 1989 she began working on her second and third albums called, ‘Thank very much’ and ‘Woza Lovely’ respectively.Both of the albums went Platinum.

In 1990 she released an album called ‘Buyani’, dedicated to Nelson Mandela.That same year she also won an OKTV award in the best South African Gospel Category. In 1993 she received more than one million votes and won the best local established songs during the Cocacola full blast music awards, music show in 1993 and 1994.

Her music is so excellent in that her first ten albums went Gold and her last six albums went Platinum.

Rebecca Malope has been married to her husband Themba Tshabalala.In 2004 she became Pregnant,despite the fact that doctors said would never have children, but unfortunately she lost her baby due to miscarriage.

When her sister passed, she became the guardian and took care of her sisters kids. She raised them as her own and their names are, Noluthando Malope, Zweli Malope and Thandeka Malope.Her Networth is estimated to be around 5Million Dollars.
